Sewage treatment plants and their types

Without access to the sewage system, we consider storing sewage in a septic tank - the so-called septic tank or local treatment in a household sewage treatment plant.

Types of sewage treatment plants:

  • drainage treatment plants,
  • biological treatment plants,
  • plant treatment plants.

The above division is a major simplification, because each type of sewage treatment plant has a biological treatment stage, but this has been accepted on the market.

The purification processes are divided into two stages:

  • mechanical treatment stage under anaerobic conditions,
  • biological treatment step under aerobic conditions.

All stages take place both in drainage, biological and plant sewage treatment plants. Another variant is the division of the so-called biological treatment plants, among which we distinguish:

  • Biological treatment plants with a rotating biological contactor RBC,
  • Biological sewage treatment plants with sprinkling biological contactor,
  • Biological sewage treatment plants with active sludge,
  • Sequential biological treatment plants with SBR activated sludge,
  • Biological wastewater treatment plants with a submerged moving bed,
  • Biological wastewater treatment plants with a submerged fixed bed.
