Designing domestic sewage treatment plants

An efficient wastewater treatment plant requires an appropriate selection of technology, proper design and correct installation. To ensure long-standing installation of the system, all these conditions should be met. The sewage treatment plant should be designed by an authorized designer in accordance with the regulations, based on soil and water tests, plot location, and local requirements.

When deciding on the type of sewage management, the first step will be to submit an application to the Municipal Office and the Water and Sewage Company in order to obtain a certificate that will exclude the possibility of connecting to the sewage system. The next step is to make a so-called notification to the environmental protection authority at least 30 days before the planned date of commencement of installation works. Acceptance may be made by the head of the commune, mayor or city president. The application should be accompanied by a situational and altitude map with the indicated location of the treatment plant’s tank and treated wastewater discharge, construction application form, declaration of the plot ownership, description of operation and certificate of the selected wastewater treatment plant.

When designing a sewage treatment plant, keep in mind to:

  • Maintain a 5m distance from the windows and external doors of the building (for single-family housing), NOTE: there are regulations that allow for a closer location if the tank is vented through high ventilation, i.e., a sewage system led out at least 60 cm from the upper edge of the windows and building door,
  • Keep a 2m distance from the plot border, pedestrian route and road (we measure from the edge of hatches and all ventilation exhausts),
  • Keep a minimum distance of 15m from the tank to the drinking water well,
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 30m between the infiltration system and the drinking water well,
  • Keep at least 1m away from telecommunications cables,
  • Keep at least 3m from the gas connection,
  • Keep at least 0.8m away from electrical cables,
  • Keep at least 1.5m from the water supply.

Recently, the authorizing authorities often require the submission of additional documents, soil tests, etc., therefore we recommend that you contact us directly in order to obtain more information.
